Jorge Luís

1899–1986

Notice

Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986) was an Argentine writer of short stories, essays, and poetry, regarded as a central figure in Spanish-language and international literature. His most celebrated collections, Ficciones and El Aleph, published in the 1940s, explore themes of dreams, labyrinths, chance, infinity, archives, mirrors, and mythology. His work is foundational to philosophical literature and the fantasy genre, and it significantly influenced the magical realist movement in twentieth-century Latin American literature. Borges also worked as a librarian, professor, lecturer, and translator.
